Best Picnic Spot

Yuma's Best Picnic Spot is the West Wetlands, according to The Sun's readers who gave it the top honors.

"West Wetlands is a lot more than just a park; it's really and environmental triumph," said Troy Wilde, public affairs coordinator with the city of Yuma.

"It's sitting on top of a former city landfill ... (and the city) has absolutely reclaimed its natural state. It has a pond, trees, walking paths, ... a boat launch. It's a great place to go to have a picnic."

Ramadas with barbecue grills are available, and a playground is nearby.

"It's an open space with over 100 acres ... It's a peaceful, user-friendly park. The city is very grateful that its residents are utilizing facilities at a high level."

The park's main entrance is off of 12th Avenue and Colorado Street. It's open year-round from dawn to 11 p.m. Call 373-5243 for more information.
