Congratulations to the 2006 winners!

Yuma's Best 2006 Sub Category winner
  Humane Society of Yuma

Best Public Services

The Humane Society of Yuma was voted Yuma's 2005 Best Public Services, and this year is no different.

"This is the second time," said Elkie Wills, community relations manager. "I believe that shows how far the humane society has come in becoming a stronger organization for the animals and for the public to count on. And it also shows that our public realizes there's an organization that is a voice for the animals and also assists with the animals."

The humane society not only enforces laws involving animals, it also feeds, cares for, shelters and adopts out homeless animals.

Willis attributes the Yuma's Best distinction to the fact that animal care has come to the forefront in Yuma the last few years, and with the humane society being the only organization in town that provides its type of services, "people realize the value of the services."

She offered words of gratitude to The Sun's readers that voted for the organization: "Thank you for the increase in support for the animals and for us over the last couple of years."

The address is 285 N. Figueroa Ave., and the number is 782-1621. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. To adopt a pet or to look for a missing one, stop by during kennel hours, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
