Yuma's friendliest grocery checkers can be found at Fry's Food Stores, which also happens to be the Best Grocery Store, according to The Sun's readers.

"How cool," said Nick Fresques, store manager. "I really think it's great because it's telling us what the community thinks.

"I have some real good employees. My checkers seem to know more of the clients, and hopefully, they're giving them good service. They check out groceries as fast as possible without making customers feel like they're rushed. Hopefully, they're smiling and engaging customers in conversation. And they're trying to ring up everything accurately."

As for the Best Grocery Store honors, Fresques said, "It's nice to have the public think of us as that (Yuma's Best). It's what we strive to do. We try to do our best, and most of our shoppers think we are (the best)."

There are two Fry's locations in the Yuma area: 500 W. 24th St., 329-1055, and 11274 S. Fortuna Road in the Foothills, 305-1922.

Both are open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.
