Congratulations to the 2006 winners!

Yuma's Best 2006 Sub Category winner
  Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings

Best Local Band/Musician

For the third year in a row, the Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings have been given top honors in the Best Local Band/Musician category.

Since you, the readers, voted for them, you know they abide by a doctrine of merriment.

"We have a lot of fun," says Colby Girard, who plays guitar and octave mandolin for the band.

Other members of the band include fiddler Lori Stofft, accordion player Lorna Bright and stand-up bassist Jon Knudtson. In addition to their instruments, each member sings to the traditional Irish music with a contemporary twist.

Their popularity is growing, not just in Yuma but around the state. "We performed at the Arizona Irish Festival last year. They liked us so much, they booked us for the main stage this year," said Girard. The festival will be Oct. 27 at the Irish Cultural Center in downtown Phoenix.

As for the local fans, band members appreciate the support they receive from Yumans. "WeÕd like to thank the Yuma Sun readers again for their immaculate good taste in music," said Girard, adding, "Gosh, as many wonderful bands as there are in Yuma, humbly, there is nobody more deserving than the Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings."
